Car rams rickshaw off e-way, 1 killed
GURGAON: A rickshaw-puller died in a road accident on Friday morning when his rickshaw was hit by an speeding Elantra car at exit number six near IFFCO Chowk on the Delhi-Gurgaon expressway. The deceased has been identified as Shukla Yadav, 40, a native of Bihar. The accident occurred around 11am when the car coming from Delhi towards IFFCO Chowk was entering the service lane at the exit point and lost control of the vehicle.
The car bearing a Delhi registration number first rammed into the rickshaw and then hit the divider. The car driver was alone in the vehicle at the time of the accident.
The police called an ambulance and both the drivers were taken to a private hospital. The rickshaw-puller later succumbed to his injuries. The police have registered a case against the driver under Sections 279 (rash driving) and 304 A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code.
Meanwhile, the accident also resulted in a huge traffic pile-up on the expressway extending from the point of accident till the Udyog Vihar flyover. The traffic flow returned to normal an hour after the damaged vehicles were towed away from the spot.
A traffic cop said that the accident took place after the morning peak hours or else there would have been a bigger traffic jam in the area.
A spokesperson of DSC Limited, the private concessionaire which manages the expressway, said that the impact of the accident was localized and it had no bearing on the toll plaza. The functioning at the toll plaza was as usual and there was no delay in vehicle clearance.
