Al Qaeda does not need to attack to remind you of its power from its grave under 50,000 kilogrammes of Afghani rubble; it just needs you to turn on your TV five years from now when we all scare each other with the 15-year anniversary in glorious HD and 3D.
Ever since not-so-noble Alfred Nobel invented dynamite, it has been the insurrectionist choice to express displeasure to governments. Gunmen are effective but their effect soon wanes. If you want to put the terror in terrorism, nothing beats an explosion.

The attacks of 9 / 11 does not change, they were a remix of the attack on the World Trade Centre in 1993 with a better fireworks. The difference was in the response.
