Food Notes: Celebrate wine at Caldwell Festa!; Ste. Chapelle has new winemaker
Festa! is a three-day celebration of the Sunnyslope wine scene Sept. 9-11. In its second year, the event has expanded to three days from one and includes winery tours, tastings and more.
Just buy your commemorative wine glass at any of the participating wineries, at the Festa! booth at Idaho 55 and Hoskins Road, or at one of these wine retailers: the Boise Co-op and Twig’s Cellar in Boise; Bueno Cheapo Vino in Nampa and Boise; Erickson’s in Eagle; and Coyotes in Caldwell.
Here’s how it works:
You can visit the six wineries — Bitner Vineyards, Fujishin Family Cellars, Huston Vineyards, Koenig Vineyards, Williamson Orchards and Ste. Chapelle — over the weekend for free tastings, discounts and other specials.
Or you can attend one of the special events such as Tapas on the Balcony at Bitner Vineyards, 16645 Plum Road, Caldwell, 4-6 p.m. Sept. 9. It’s $20 per person, ($15 for glass holders). For reservations, call 899-7648.
Or meet Huston winemakers Gregg and Mary Alger from 5 to 9 p.m. Sept. 9 at The Orchard House, 14949 Sunnyslope Road, Caldwell. It’s not a traditional wine dinner. You’ll order off the menu and get a chance to taste Huston wines. For reservations, call 459-8200.
From 6 to 10 p.m. Sept. 10, head to Huston, 16473 Chicken Dinner Road, for Where RU Chillin’ with the Chicken, a night of food from Brick 29, wine and music. $15; $10 for glass holders. Reservations: 861-8511.
The weekend’s culmination is a concert and multi-winery tasting from noon to 5 p.m. Sept. 11 at Ste. Chapelle Winery, 19348 Lowell Road. Music is from 1 to 4:30 p.m. It’s $10 at the gate. Glass holders are free.
COSMIC PIZZA OPENS
Locavore owners Christine Reid and Mitch Thompson have a new venture. Cosmic Pizza, 1221 W. Boise Ave., opened last week in the former Chef Roland’s Cajun Cuisine spot.
Reid and Thompson teamed with Frim Fram Four drummer Greg Belzeski, who bought the building, to open this casual neighborhood joint. Reid will still be at Locavore, 3110 Bown Way, cooking up her Northwest cuisine most days, but she’ll roll dough at Cosmic at least two days a week, she says.
