'America's Got Talent' recap: Top 10 performances

Is it just me, or is the nearing conclusion of "America's Got Talent" this season a profoundly depressing thought?

When the season first kicked off in June, the summer was young and presented a vast expanse of warm weather, baseball and vacation trips. Now, more than three months later, the Mets' season is long over. Kids are on their way back to school. And here in Jersey, this week's gloomy weather provides a sad reminder of cooler days ahead.

If all that wasn't enough, we're down to our final 10 acts of the sixth season. After tonight, only four will remain to slug it out for the season's crown, meaning many of our favorites will be consigned to the ash heap of AGT obscurity.

But that doesn't mean we can't have fun in these last few weeks. Tuesday, 10 acts came onstage to urge America to vote them into the final four. Here's a snapshot of how each one did.

Miami All-Stars: If one doesn't classify Team iLuminate strictly as a dance team, this Latin group is clearly the strongest such act in the top 10 this year. Their previous performances have been imaginative, daring and fast-paced, and so far, they've breezed their way through the competition.

Tuesday, the group put on a salsa-infused pep rally, complete with football players, cheerleaders and one dancing chicken. The act certainly bore their unmistakable signature, blending impeccable choreography with eye-catching costumes, but didn't emanate the same energy as their previous performances have. There's nothing necessarily wrong with that, since their exhibition this week was flawless. But here's the thing: dance groups don't stack up as favorably in this competition as, say, adorable girls who sing really, really well. That means MAS needs to be more than great — they need to be magical. They need to engrave themselves into the consciousness of everyone who's watching. That's a pretty tall order.

In the past, I've caught a whiff of such wizardry from these guys. But I don't know if I came away with the same feeling this time. They're good enough to earn a spot among the top four, but by no means is that assured tonight.

Julie Chen Seems Nice, Rational | The Blemish

With Holly Robinson Peete , Leah Remini and Sharon Osbourne. Well, I should say used to because just recently she warned them, “My husband Les Moonves can fire your asses any day.” Page Six says this has left execs “essentially neutered.” Whatever. Execs are pretty much useless anyway.

Big time serious reporter Julie has since fired Leah Remini, caused Sharon Osbourne to quit and may soon have Holly Robinson Peete fired. In sort of a lateral move, she’s replaced them with Kris Jenner and Sheryl Underwood.

Her latest demand was the addition of Kris Jenner, and Sheryl Underwood to replace Holly Robinson Peete . “It’s the Les Moonves show starring his annoying wife,” a source griped. Peete was told to “clean out her dressing room” last week but had not been released from her CBS contract as of last night. “They don’t want to look bad for firing her,” a source said. “But she can’t look for other work.” A show insider said, “There’s going to be tension on the show because of the casting changes.” Leah Remini has been shown the door and Sharon Osbourne quit in protest of Chen’s demand she not speak about the Casey Anthony trial because she is not a news reporter. — Page Six

If I was Julie Chen , I’d be drunk with power too. Professionalism wouldn’t even be in my vocab. I would look at Kris Jenner, tell her I’m thirsty and she damn well better get me a glass of wine or else she gets the axe. Of course, my husband Les Moonves wouldn’t say anything either because I’d give the best bj’s. These lips don’t quit, son! No homo.

Julie Chen is a phony. Dont think this show will last and she wont be able to contend with Kris “Jenner”. She will outshine Julie. Sorry guys, but you will be losing a lot of viewers. Really would love to Leah. Holly and Sharon get a show of their own. They should be substitutes on The View, when needed. They are great. CBS does not compare with NBC (Today) and ABC – no heart, no conscience but now no viewers.
