Ulysses announces birth of DoMain
The first activity the group is promoting is a Third Thursday event. The DoMain group is inviting all Main Street businesses to stay open late, until 8:00 PM on the Third Thursday of each month beginning in September. The first event will be September 15th. In addition to businesses already located on Main Street, others are encouraged to bring their business downtown in the form of a booth, food truck, tent, etc. Fund raising is also encouraged. “Our goal is for this to become a monthly event, with businesses and groups all pitching in to create a festive atmosphere on Main Street.” states Jeani Gustafson who has been working on this promotion. “The inaugural Third Thursday event will feature in store specials at Main Street businesses, food booths, flowers and plants, face painting, and more. Attendees can sign up for a drawing for Ulysses Bucks.” “While this alliance is not a part of the local Chamber of Commerce activities, it is wholeheartedly supported by the Chamber” said Marieta Hauser, director of the Ulysses Chamber. “Our Chamber, Tourism and Economic Development offices are delighted to see local businesses working together to develop more activity on Main Street.” Matt Roloff, this year’s featured entertainment is best known for starring in the hit TLC reality show “Little People, Big World.” Millions of people around the world have followed the lives and challenges of Matt and his family at their home in Oregon, but there is more to Matt’s story than the TV show and being a devoted husband and father of four children. Aside from Matt’s entrepreneurial success and celebrity, it’s his personal story that has truly inspired so many. The buttons are available at many Ulysses businesses or contact the Chamber of Commerce. There will also be button sales available at the door. The cost is $6 per button, which includes the meal, collector button and live-entertainment.
