Sometimes you just have to venture a little out of your comfort zone and try something new … something like Thai Food on a Tuesday night. Ok it’s not that foreign of a change for me but you have to know, I’m a meat and potato’s kind of gal.
The Green Papaya is an authentic Thai Cuisine restaurant located in North Reno and nestled back in the Caughlin Ranch shopping center. So there we were – parked out front making our way in. Once the door opened you could smell the freshly cooked stir fry that was being prepared in the back kitchen.
“Seat yourself” she said as we walked in the door.
With menu in hand – there are #52 plus options to select from and out of fifty two – we ordered up 5.
#8 Satay: Tri-Tip with the best freshly made Peanut Sauce. (Some of the Best Peanut Sauce.) #29 Classic phad Thai: Stir fried rice noodles, tofu, chicken, prawn, bean sprouts, carrots, green onions and homemade sauce with a splash of lime! (Yum!) #36 Basil fried rice with Chicken: Sitr fried rice, onions, bell peppers, basil and egg. (Good but not exactly carb free.) #42 Basil eggplant: Stir fry with Chinese eggplant, onion, bell peppers and basil. (This was my FAVORITE dish!!!!!!) Dinner Special: Thai Galan Chicken Quarters with Sticky Rice: (The chicken was good but lacking a little ‘kick’ that you might be expecting for Thai cooking. Overall I did enjoy it but still would opt for #42).Overall – I really liked the Green Papaya and would easily recommend to friends and family. The prices weren’t bad either and trust me with 5 dishes ordered up there were lots of leftovers to enjoy the next day. With the top button undone – I’d have to give this place thumbs up for anyone looking for a little adventure for their next Tuesday lunch or dinner dining experience.
In a nutshell
So far, I think this is the most authentic Thai restaurant in Reno – with the fairest prices for the food quality and quantity compared to the other places in town. The Pad Thai wasn’t a nasty sugar and ketchup dump like their competitors (a sad shortcut for us Americans) and the satay sauce was as real as I’ve found in Nevada too. I’m looking forward to trying their $6.95 lunch specials!
